1. The negative effects of media on public
We as public can look at "The negative effects of media on public" through multiple perspectives, I decided to pursue the road of how media are used for unethical purposes, in this case by politics. Number of people let them self be manipulated, however on the other hand if public would be more educated and aware of certain issues that are shaping the news and information, they wouldn't be so naïve and would be able create their own opinion. This is exactly the purpose that motivated me to create such blog. There are more areas where negative effects of media do occur in this world. Media often portrayal Gender equality, advertising, health industry and more controversial issues in very different light compare to reality. On the other hand its on us readers to filter out lies that are presented to us and that's why I consider politics most influential. Politics nurture our society and their actions influence our lives, based on that I believe its a must to conscious about the practices that are being used through media.
The problems I see on our modern era with media is the negative influence it can have over public and how dramatically our values and things that are fundamental to us can change. When I am looking around myself it fascinates me how powerful weapon media such as TV, magazines, newspaper, news, posts can actually represent. This overall topic interests me as it is annoying and at the same time dangerous, I feel that this theme should be more discussed as the purposes are being missed used to manipulate publics opinion based on lies and fake information that can't be trusted as its unreliable. The negative effects of media on public is a real thing that affects every single one of us without even us realizing which I honestly feel is wrong and this problem is in our whole society as people are unaware and uneducated which I want to change and make difference to help and make at least a small change to better in our modernized society. Issues surrounding our society haven't been here before 1990s, this is simply because media didn't have as much access and affect on our lives and decision making as they do in 21st century.
2. Current Events I
https://www.forum24.cz/zahranicni-odbornici-varuji-babis-ovlada-media-politici-tlaci-na-novinare/
This article released by forum24 on their own website is a real representation of what is wrong in Czech Republic in politics and in connection between politics and media. The title of this article speaks for itself "Foreign experts warn: Babis controls the media, politicians press journalists", the issue is that if foreign journalists and writers take their time to curiosities you realise how seriously wrong the situation is Czech politics are. The news report isn't long but in part it mentions that The European Federation of Journalists sent its experts to the Czech Republic a few days ago to hold discussions with journalists, editors and other media professionals in the Czech Republic. These debates also led to the publication of a serious report. These actions report make public realise how easily manipulated our generation can be thanks to people like Andrej Babis and thanks to media that gets into our heads way to easily and changes everything we stand for. Its powerful and influential people that are smart, using media to spread thoughts and ideas is a powerful weapon especially when these weapons aim is manipulate public for someones benefit, in this case Andrej Babis and this news report proofs it. Corruption and bribing are a real problem in Czech media are here in order to inform public of what is really going on and now a days most of the media are controlled by powerful people that procure their interest to benefit from it personally.
Current Events II
Russian media produces information that inhumanizes the adversary. In the Russians, they reinforce the impression that they have the right to occupy and kill. This system is used frequently by Russian government to spread their believes and establish some sort of control over their huge population.
This website gives a real insight of how serious this topic is:
https://www.realcleardefense.com/articles/2017/05/10/how_russia_weaponized_social_media_in_crimea_111352.html
It started long before Crimea. Therefore, his annexation was so quick and easy. This is one of the reasons why Vladimir Putin has such dominant support among the Russian public. That is why it triggers a different kind of intervention in the east of Ukraine. Moreover, the fact that the Ukrainian crisis is primarily a powerful Russian internal crisis of a group of people around Vladimir Putin who monopolised power is often omitted. It started long before Crimea, but for the first time it was marked by Russia's invasion of this peninsula, and later also of Eastern Ukraine. It was only after a long delay that the EU realised that Moscow's behaviour also threatened European security.

Bad news: How does media coverage affects public attitudes toward aid?, Devex

Devex.com main focus is on "Bad news and How does media coverage affect public attitudes toward aid?" In source gives real inside of how famous tabloids such Daily male exagurate claims and shape true facts. Shaping headlines and news is a real problem if it changes readers views on a certain topic that results in miss understanding. Unfortunately such miss understandings are done on purpose which this website talks about, it also means how differently thanks to this we interpret and absorb information. This web page also talks how public increasingly associates aid institutions with corruption and a lack of accountability, and that it is no coincidence considering that this is a real issue in UK.
https://youtu.be/27JQS8m0SLM
This video on TED Talk by Philippa Young gives a real insight on how both positive and negative media influence our world. The content that we receive shapes our perception of reality which can be both negative and positive.
For number of years professional experts did their best and tried to describe the effects of newspapers, television and internet media throughout the 20th century. From primitive theories about miraculous and total efficacy, they gradually moved on to explore in more detail the role of active audiences. More radical theories then argue that the media does not describe reality, but creates reality.

Mass media also play an important role in shaping our understanding of what the norm is. This socialising role of the media is best known today when we realise how often we recall popular TV shows and films, whose heroes dealt with similar situations. Our expectations from others and what we think society expects from us can be significantly influenced not only by what we see in other people's real behaviour, but also by what we have seen on television.
The truth is that Internet media is at risk of people becoming unwilling to receive other opinions as volunteer prisoners in content bubbles. In other words thanks to an internet search engine, a well-configured reader or social networking sites, they will have access primarily to the content they agree to. We may be happier with what we are reading, but our private reality will move further away from what others see as reality.
Thanks to media influential people such politicians, celebrities, radicals can address millions of people all around the world even if their purposes and visions are selfish and not beneficial to the public which is a dangerous idea. However these practises and very common as these individuals or organisations such as political parties use these methods more and more as it is efficient and a lot people unortunately get manipulated and pull down by the these organisations and certain people that are professionals and know exactly what they are doing as they are well prepared and trained for these purposes.
Czech prime minister and at the same time second richest man in the country is a prime example of how influence and power over media can help to affect public option in your favour. It doesn't come by surprise that Andrej Babis owns a very popular newspaper company and tv program that influence many peoples opinion and perspectives about his acts that sometimes are not beneficial to the society and are unethical. Czech Prime minister is often compared to American President Donald Trump because of his his massive influence and power in their country. They are also both self made millioner and are part of the 1% of richest individuals in their countries. However the main difference is that Andrej Babis compare to Donald Trump controls multiple well renowned Czech media companies which helped him as mentioned before to his political success for number of years. In USA on the other hand it is forbidden by law for president to own media companies in order not to manipulate news and information to change peoples ideas based on lies, which is with out doubt logical.
In conclusion to the main point which is negative effects of media is fundamental to realise what causes these issues that all over the world. The opportunity to manipulate with peoples thoughts is a modern crime and selfishness and greediness is the root of these acts. People can't be independent if they cant freely use media in order to learn and involve because then we realise that our fundamentals are based on lies that were given to us. Politicians offer us freedom which apparently means democracy, but what kind of democracy is this when TV stations are told what they can and can't broadcast ? How can we really create objective believes if media like in Czech Republic are controlled by the same man that has control over our laws, finances and hospital care. Our conscience is telling us that we are in comfortable situation right now, but how do we know if we were told by media.

ReplyDeleteThe blog has nice structure, all links are informative but for me the biggest disappointment was a link to a YouTube video that I couldn't click on. I would personally prefer some other informative link in a blog rather than Wikipedia, that's the first thing that appears when you type "Influence of mass media" into Google. I would also say that you have many small paragraphs under each topic but its kind of hard to see where each starts - I would recommend to highlight the text, underline or make it bold and bigger at the beginning of each starting paragraph. On the other hand, great research and very interesting topic for me:)
ReplyDeleteThank You very much OLI, I will definitely follow your advice for further improvements.
